Welcome!
You made it!
Congrats on becoming a fully fledged Hive member! Now, let’s set you up for success…
To Do List…
Add me on Facebook so I can put you in our private groups.
Download Google Sheets (free app on your phone) and let me know what email address you sign up/in with.
Take a “before” pic (even if you don’t want to)…I PROMISE you’ll turn around at some stage and wish you had one - even if no one (including me) never sees it!
Nutrition
We’ll go over your nutrition and all the questions you have once you’ve given this a watch…
Your nutrition and the way in which we’ll tackle it is unique to you.
Some of us count calories, some of us send pictures of the meals they eat whilst others work on improving their relationship with food and their behaviours surrounding it.
We’ll figure out which method suits you best as we go along but the underpinning of all my methodologies is explained in that video above so please watch it!
Training
You can always find the timetable here - Pick classes that suit you best and if it’s been a while since you last exercised then maybe hold off from the bootcamps until you’ve found some momentum in the lifting classes!
Be prepared to track your lifts by writing them on our whiteboard. Why? Because gaining strength is single-handily the best tool for looking better.
How? Let me explain with this pic…
This is why it’s important you get stronger but it’s also important you appreciate it takes time and patience to master all the lifts we do!
So take your time, don’t rush and make sure you respect the stress on the body lifting can cause because getting injured is the easiest way to slow progress and kill momentum so we need to protect against it at all cost.
Mindset
No one expects you to be godly strong or proficient in the gym so don’t worry about trying to show it.
Everyone is here for the same thing - to improve themselves by seeking guidance and support for their health and fitness so embrace and enjoy your own journey and don’t waste time, energy or focus trying to compare yours to anyone else’s.
It’ll take plenty of blood, sweat and tears to build your best body therefore it’s important you set your expectations on how long it’s going to take to get there.
Fit looking people are generally fit. So focus your attention on building up your strength and fitness first and the rest will come later I promise.
How we measure progress
We track weigh ins and measurements because they’re…
Easy
Quick
Cheap
Repeatable
Reliable (enough)
This is what a sheet looks like…
We weigh in daily and do measurements weekly.
Why?
Because weighing in daily allows us to account for fluctuations in our weight, work off an average and take away the guessing game and stressfulness of weighing in randomly.
There’s a multitude of reasons why your weight might go up even when you’re still losing fat and this post below goes into some of these factors so please give it a read…
Measurements are also an amazing tool for helping us see fat loss - especially when the muscle we’re gaining is disrupting our weigh in’s.
See how this clients weigh ins haven’t moved much over the fortnight but her measurements are showing she’s definitely getting smaller/losing fat?
This is what happens when the muscle you gain cancels out the fat you’re losing on the scales!
1kg of fat is larger than 1kg of muscle, as you can see in the picture below…
So if you’re losing fat but gaining muscle - the scales might not show us much movement but your measurements sure will.
This is why we do both weigh ins and measurements.
If I was you…
The MAJORITY of issues most people face when trying to improve their health and nutrition is not understanding how to do it or where they’re currently going wrong.
That’s why I highly recommend going to our Facebook and/or Instagram and checking out all the mini articles I’ve posted there. They’re jam packed full of useful info that’ll help teach you a couple of things along the way…
Don’t be afraid to ask me questions either!
I love teaching and I love talking so please give me the opportunity to do so!
Here’s what they say…
I asked our current members what they wish they’d done at the start of their fitness journey and here’s some of the responses…
Take their voting seriously as these guys have the experience to make these reflections very valuable to you.
I highly recommend leaning on these guys as much as you can as many will be happy to share their experiences, wisdom, tips and regrets with you and it’ll save you plenty of stress and time along your journey as well!
Last bit of advice…
lean on me…but understand you have a role to play too.
I might know how to improve people’s health and fitness like the back of my hand but I don’t know you. I don’t know your struggles, roadblocks, likes or dislikes and I need your input, feedback, effort and ideas to make sure I can help you properly.
I need you to meet me in the middle and constantly communicate with me. My coaching is collaborative, not autocratic and being actively involved in your own journey by expressing yourself to me will go a long way in making sure your success is reached in the quickest, easiest and most enjoyable way possible.
Yes, there will be times where I’ll ask you to exit your comfort zones - both physically and emotionally and yes we’re going to make some mistakes along the way too. But as long as we stick together and can reflect openly and honestly then we’ll always be able to learn and move forward together towards reaching that goal you’ve asked me to help you with - I promise.
I’ll leave you with some of the lessons learnt from one of our gyms greatest ever achievements and hopefully it can give you some insight into what a successful journey truly looks like…
